Scum….
by Tony on Aug.02, 2009, under Cycling
I had mean’t to put post more past posts before any current posts, however last night my shed was broken into and my bikes stolen
whilst the bikes were nothing special a Carerra Banshee X and a Giant FCR 3, they still were my lifeblood for my weight loss, of course I can go get replacements, but how long before the scum repay a visit and steal my new bikes? I have no alternative than to store the bikes in my shed, having 2 bikes in the house isn’t really an option. This kind of event has been in the back of mind when I have thought about upgrading, when I got to 17st my wife said that it was a massive achievement and that I should treat myself to a new bike,I have been toying with the idea of getting something with a carbon frame, but now I am thinking Raleigh Bomber! The theives broke 2 padlocks, one on the back garden gate and 1 on the shed to get to my bikes locked in turn to each other, quite clearly they were determined to get what they had come for. I don’t live in an area where crime is high, in fact in my avenue in the 10 years we have been here there hasn’t even been a car break in or burglary! So currently my weight loss is on hold and so is my decision regarding buying a new bike
Has the scum won?

Hi Tony,
Nothing worse than when someone steals your stuff, especially a bike. My mum recently had a Trek mountain bike stolen out her garage – she was gutted.
However, by not replacing it – you’ve let them win. I had a Pace mountain bike and it got nicked, so rather than risk another, I got a watch. That’s when the cycling stopped and the weight gain started.
First off, you’ve hit 17 stone – treat yourself to some carbon – I did! Nothing feels better than the black stuff. It’s the work of the gods… and I can recommend Giant carbon…
Second, insure the bike through a third party – I use these guys http://www.eta.co.uk/insurance/cycle
Third, get your ride registered on Bike Register http://www.bikeregister.com/ and you’ll also get Datatag.
Fourth, consider storing it in house. All 3 of mine are stored indoors. You can get vertical storage solutions too.
Hope this helps man, would hate to see you stop now.

Thanks James, Currently on holiday in Southern Spain at my mum and dad’s so dreading the scales when I get back
that along with not having a bike for the last 3 weeks can’t have helped, my dad does have a mountain bike of sorts, so I went out on it yesterday and whilst it felt good to be in the saddle, 35 degrees means you don’t stay comfortable for too long…
Well done on the sub 30 min time tremendous effort despite your leg cramps, I really am in awe of your times even before the final one you posted, they are impressive to say the least, despite us having similiar weights my times are nowehere near you, guess I am going have to stick in more miles and time in the saddle

Thanks Danny,
I have just started building a new road bike, by not doing this previously I was letting the bastards win, not to mention of course without my regular cycling my weight has increased, 2 months off the bike and lapsing back into old habits has cost me 1/2 a stone, os hopefully I will have the bike built by the end of the week and can get some miles under my belt.
